Navigating the Nursing Journey – The language of nursing is currently peppered with terms like “burnout”, “compassion fatigue” and “moral distress”; whilst it sounded remote and foreign a few years ago, suddenly some of us are finding ourselves feeling seriously at risk. It is a topic of conversation from new graduate colleagues right through to our senior nurses, some who sadly feel they are “crawling to the finish line”.

Personally, it affects our physical wellbeing, our sense of self-esteem, our relationships with patients, colleagues and, sadly sometimes, our families and ultimately our satisfaction and contentment with life.

Jane’s passion for wellbeing for healthcare providers arose out of a brush with burnout herself and several family members receiving care in healthcare services. Attend this session for a thought-provoking day covering these topics and more:

  • Stress and its impact on body, mind, emotions
  • Managing energy and momentum (vs only “managing time”) – maintaining momentum
  • Giving yourself time to reconnect and centre – with your priorities; your colleagues and your profession
  • Core elements to perform at our best – sleep, positive affect and moderating stress
  • Mindfulness – application in practice

Are we overthinking the whole lot?  What do we mean, anyway and….what about ME?! What’s my experience?  My satisfaction?  Is that even relevant? …and could there be a link?

As the pace of healthcare seems to increase exponentially none of us would argue that the patient ought to be at the centre of what we do. In fact, many of us chose this profession because of what we wanted to do for patients, families and communities.

But is this possible and, more importantly, is it currently true?  This one-day seminar leads us through:

  • Understanding the nature of experience
  • Understanding what matters to us, so we can provide what matters to others
  • Understanding the role of neuroplasticity, awareness and focus
  • Some basic tools, tactics and techniques to keep connection in focus
  • Mindfulness and presence as professional attributes (and how to do it!)
  • How hard is it? Keeping it real in our current reality!
  • Oh, yes, and a few definitions, research findings and frameworks along the way.

Our newest ECT4Health seminar takes you on a mindful journey through the psychology of leading clinical teams, with compassion and spunk.

This full day program for senior nurses in clinical leadership roles is ideal for Clinical Nurse (Level 2 Registered Nurses through CNC, CNS, CNF & Nurse/Midwife Educators to NUMs/MUMs.

It encompasses the psychology of caring and effective teams and the pathophysiology of compassion fatigue.  Mindfulness, and the neuroscience of stress,  bullying and collegial discourse will be addressed in this brave new workshop delivered by our favourite organisational culture coach – Jane Stanfield (Nurse/Midwife and change agent).

Nurses and midwives know that they are caught in the middle of the chaos and complexity of healthcare systems that currently leave their colleagues burnt out, stressed and seeking alternative careers.

If we are the bulk of the care/compassion workforce, why do we perceive so little self care, or kindness to each other.

Join Jane Stanfield (Nurse/Midwife and change agent) for the best education day you’ll attend this year.

Learn from real world health care data and develop immediate strategies to re-invigorate not only your career, but those you lead.

Why do we call it the Pirate seminar?   We just ARRR…….

Are you a nurse working in an acute medical unit, and want to sharpen up your knowledge and skills in assessment and management of the cardiac and respiratory patient?  Our Pirate Seminar (Acute Respiratory, Renal and Rhythms) refreshes a heap of core business like cardiac risk factors, anatomy and physiology and telemetry rhythm interpretation just to name a few topics.  We look into sepsis, and where chest infection meets pneumonia, and we look at acute lung presentations like asthma and acute exacerbation of COPD.

This seminar is perfect for Nursing Students, Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses to increase their assessment knowledge of common cardiac and respiratory presentations.  Good for ED, PHC and Community GP/medical centre nurses to polish up recognition of acute deterioration nursing skills.

If all you wanted to get out of it was Rhythm Interpretation, consider attending just Day one.

Content includes:

  • Cardiac Rhythm interpretation – our most popular session.
  • Heart blocks and life threatening arrhythmia
  • Cardiac risk factors, oxygen and the cholesterol discussion we had to have
  • Understanding Heart Failure and antihypertensive drugs
  • Renal function, Primary (renal) Hypertension and the antihypertensive drugs
  • Respiratory assessment and some Respiratory / oxygen physiology
  • Asthma, COPD and chest infection

Think of our Acute Respiratory, Renal and Rhythms Seminar (ARRR) as one day of the best of our Cardiac seminar, and one day of the best of our Respiratory Failure Nursing seminar, with a dose of renal physiology and elements of pharmacology (Rusty Pills seminar) to glue it all together.

Professional growth for nurses across Australia is essential if you want your staff to provide the highest standard of care to patients. While there are many areas of medicine nurses need to be up to date on, the treatment of trauma injuries is one of the most fluid and changing departments of a hospital. With constant updates in treatment procedures, diagnostics and understanding, enrolling your nursing team into one of our trauma courses or seminars is an important step in ensuring patient care is kept at the highest possible standard.

Available across Australia our trauma courses and seminars are a great way to keep the knowledge in your hospital at the cutting edge of medical theory.

The ECT4Health Trauma Fundamentals Seminar is a two-day course with a comprehensive coverage of physiology, assessment and management of the patient presenting with trauma. This program is designed for Emergency Department nurses or those in rural, remote or acute care facilities who may be involved in the assessment and management of traumatic injuries.

The content starts with basic cellular overview, oxygen delivery to tissue, nursing assessment, epidemiology of trauma in Australia, shock, burns and trauma to different systems. Differences in the physiology of special populations e.g. children, elderly and pregnant women with be discussed in the context of severe injury and shock.

At the completion of this seminar, nurses will have an updated approach to assessment, fluid resuscitation and shock management. Whilst the program is basic in its content and will not replace robust study, it serves as an outstanding introduction for the nurse new to emergency, trauma care and rural/remote nursing.

This program attracts 12 CPD appropriate for general nurses and those holding Endorsements as NP or RIPRN.  CPD for Paramedics is offered in this program.

Note:  This program is theoretical.  There are no practical workshops associated with this seminar.

At ECT4Health we run a range of courses aimed at upskilling nurses and paramedics. For more information on our upcoming courses right across Australia, click here.
